What is a Children's Dental Health Check?

Your Child's dental health is vital.

From the moment we see the first tooth appear you should bring your child to the children’s dentist to check their dental health and development.

Your child’s dental health is vital to their development. With Children’s Dentistry at Beverley Dental we like to create a calm relaxed environment where your children can get used to the dental environment and have a positive and fun experience at the dentist.

Forming good habits from the earliest age allows us to facilitate a lifetime of dental health. It is important that from the first tooth that your child is regularly visiting the dentist to check on the health and development of their dentition. At a childs dental health check we will assess the health of their teeth, gums, soft tissues and make any orthondic considerations, i.e. will they need any braces.

After 11 years old it is very important children are assessed for their orthodontic needs, when we can then organise any treatment required. We are lucky enough to have Dr Elif Keser who can assess and complete any orthodontic treatment that is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age should I bring my child?

We recommend that they should have been at least once before age 1, even if it is just accompanied with someone. Getting children used to the environment helps us build positive experiences and makes visits in the future much easier.

How often per day should children be brushing their teeth?

Twice per day for around 2 minutes. If they are younger than around 6 then we recommend it is aided by an adult. The younger the child the more help they need!

Should my child be using fluoride toothpaste?

Yes! When it is time to brush your child’s teeth, fluoride toothpaste should be used. Follow guidance on the packaging for the correct age range. Only alter this if advised by your dentist.

Our guidelines surrounding fluoride are based on strong scientific evidence which proves the benefit of fluoride for our teeth and the safety of using it. These guidelines can be found here.
